Marketing by Sharing
Posted by: | CommentsThis is a great video about new marketing – by sharing and educating your following. My new mantra is ‘Focus on building a following first. Monetize later’. While I have courses for sale and am adding new ones, it’s a more subtle approach. You do live Ustream events (webcasts, lessons, interviews, etc) and provide material. Maybe the material is a subset of your product – then you have links in the PDF material for example explaining where they can get more info. Social media marketing is a free and powerful way to get the word out to the masses like never before.
Getting on Page One of Google – Case Study
Posted by: | CommentsHow I just got onto page one on Google search results for ‘Engage Today’ and ‘Engage Today Conference‘, which is a conference on September 30, 2009 in Calgary, Alberta. Being a long tail keyword with less competition, it’s more likely to get on page one.
Things that were done:
- Created a new domain using GoDaddy with ‘engage today’ in the URL, http://engagetodayseminar.com
- Created wordpress website/blog on HostGator hosting. I use hostgator because they have unlimited bandwidth and unlimited websites on one account
- Tagged blog posts with specific keywords, ‘engage today’, ‘engage today conference’, etc
- Created videos using Animoto and Camtasia Studio Version 6
then uploaded to YouTube - Advertised with Facebook ads and Google adwords
- Created a Squidoo page (free) http://www.squidoo.com/engagetoday2009
- Sent out a few tweets and Facebook statuses
- Kijiji classified ad posting (free but I paid for addition of URL
- Created a Facebook event
- Had my wife email hundreds oil/gas executives
Keyword Research – Finding Lesser Competitive But Valuable Keywords
Posted by: | CommentsI just did this video screencast on finding valuable keywords, ones that you have a chance to get on page one of Google for.
In future videos I’ll go through other techniques to getting on page one of Google such as creating videos and putting articles on EzineArticles.com
Get Traffic and Make Money Online
Posted by: | CommentsIf you’ve visited some of the links I’ve posted from Jeff Johnson’s blog on internet and affiliate marketing you know that he knows what he’s talking about. He’s managed to make a lot of money as a super-affiliate as well as selling his own information products (internet marketing is itself a huge and profitable market once you’ve been able to make money online).
You can check out his new get traffic and make money training program which has just launched as we speak.
Do I Need to Do Market Research?
Posted by: | CommentsIf you’re like me you’ve made various attempts to make money online by creating blogs, websites, Google adsense, trying affiliate programs and even creating your own products and membership sites. After a few weeks or months with no sales and hardly any traffic you’ve probably become discouraged and given up, only to repeat the same process for another site.
Most like you picked a domain name that you liked or thought was catchy for your niche and started creating blogs on topics that you wanted to talk about and thought people would be interested in.
Unfortunately this is a series of fatal mistakes that can be remedied by doing some keyword research for your market. I recently started using a free trial version of Market Samurai (and have now purchased it) and the beauty is you can find keywords that have a minimum number of searches per day, but also not an overwhelming number of competing webpages. You can also do this with the free Google keyword tool, but it will take you more time. And Market Samurai can do many other things as well (which I’ll get into in future posts).
Market Samurai has a variable named SEO Value (SEOV) which is the estimated number of searches per day for the number one search position multiplied the average cost per click (on Google Adwords). So if SEOV equals $300 for a keyword, that would mean the estimate revenue per day would be $300 if you had the top spot. This assumes you are breaking even with your Adwords costs, although you could be making less or more, if you have higher priced backend offers for example.
Getting the top spot is often quite difficult, so you have to also check the SEO Competition which is the number of competing web pages. If you don’t get to the top spot you won’t get that revenue of course. This is not an exact science by any means, but can help you assess the relative value of keywords in your niche.
Many of us don’t do this type of basic research – finding out what people are searching for, making sure there is enough volume of searches, that there are buyers in our niche (based on assumption that if people are advertising there is money to be made), and making sure we use these keywords in our blog posts and other content. The good news is this is much easier that typical market research where you have to pay for expensive surveys.
Making Your First Dollar Online
Posted by: | CommentsI can’t think of any better way to learn everything there is to know about internet marketing (for free) than to go through Ed Dale’s Thirty Day Challenge. You also get to take lots of action as you work through your favorite niche. I’ve been doing internet marketing and learning a ton about it over the years, but still managed to find great nuggets in that challenge.
Some of the key points are:
- Make Your First Dollar – You can’t make a million dollars without making a dollar first. If you can make a dollar then you can scale up these efforts to make more money
- Understand Your Market – you can learn a lot about your market using free tools like Google Reader to pull in articles, videos, blogs about your market niche
- Find a product that sells – before expanding too far into content creation make sure your product sells (or find a converting affiliate offer).I wouldn’t create my own product until I can sell a large quantity of someone else’s product.
- Dominate Your Market – become a market leader by understanding the market and adding to the conversation. Add videos, articles, blog posts to your market niche. In other words, add value
So go make that first dollar online! And let me know how it’s going.
